Choosing the sails (around 6 m)

Not easy to find a sail fit to women windsurfer. Pro ladies windsurfer are different, they are as good as men. As common improver like me this is not so easy. There are not many sails in the market which are special for ladies. With 50 kg weight and do not have much muscles I need a sail which is light and handy. I see some people bought a sail because of the Pro’s use it, they bought sails they want, not sails what they need. And after that they are struggling and finally they can’t using it.

Most of the time I am using 5.8 m sail. I am using this range of sail to improve my jibe and waterstarting. The common condition wind around 10 – 14 knots, which we usually have most of the time in Tripoli and Bali. I sometimes go small when the wind getting hard to control but this condition not often we have. I have Kurze from Ka Sails (2006) and North Sails Drive light (I don’t remember the year maybe 2006 type) both are 5.8 m. One for Bali and one for Tripoli. After 4 years my Ka Kurze is getting old and ware off, already have lots of sticker patch, hole every where like a cheese. Now I need a new one to replace it.

We have Severne Mojo 6 m 2010 but it is not the sail for light wind (10-12 knots), it is not as handy as my others in this range size and I am not happy. It is not a sail for me. We have another 6 m Gun Flash and it is strong but heavy. The Ka Kurze is unforgettable for me, it is handy and extremely light, it is stable, it has huge range of wind, I am still planning even when the wind just below 10 knots, soft in the gust, and when the wind pick up to 15 knots I am simply running much faster but I still can handle it. I really like to have the same like this but since long time this type is discontinue. What a pity.

Finally I get Loft Advance 2010. I am quite happy with it. First because it is light and handy, smooth and soft in the lul. But in the speed it cannot beat the Ka Sail Kurze. Good that these sails are light so I can go bigger. I said ‘these’ because for replacing one Ka Kurze with Loft Advance for the same wind range I need two, size 5.8 m dan 6.5 m.

How about my North Sails Drive Light ? Difficult to say that this is a bad sail for me. It is less light compare to the Ka Sail Kurze, but just fine as it is quite handy. What is amazing for me, this sail has the same performance even when I am rigging it bad. It is not so sensitve in the way we are rigging it. Which is good. As most of the time women have problem in down hauling. We are depending to our partner and or friends which help us to down hauling during rigging.
